Yesterday, Ghis finally had a day off, so he decided to go... ice kayaking! He and his partner headed to a river which turned out to be quite frozen (probably due to the minus ten degree Celsius weather). So they tried to break it, but couldn't. So they tied a rope to the kayak and pushed it out to see if it would break the ice, but it didn't, and all this time they are walking on the ice, pushing the kayak out further and further.
Finally Ghis's friend gets in his kayak and Ghis pushes him over the ice. The friend is weilding a big stick which is turning out to be more useful than the paddle. Finally he breaks through the ice and the kayak floats on the steaming water.
They kayaked in this exhausting fashion until they were, well exhausted, and then they turned around and came back to shore. To top it all off, Ghis decided to go for a swim (no dry suit, just some good thermal long underwear and his favourite Bogs rubber boots. His friend was supposed to capture it on camera (for my benefit??), but because of his thick gloves, he pushed the button twice and didn't ge
t any of it. Anyway, here's a photo of this weird new sport.
